Hi everyone,
Beginning on Monday, May 1st PCCLD will begin checking out wifi hotspots to customers! These hotspots will only be available at two locations to start with, Rawlings and Barkman. The hotspots check out for one week with no renewal. We have a total of 14, which is the reason for the shorter checkout period. Customers will have to contact staff to place these items on hold because of hold location restrictions in Sirsi. There is a record in Bibliocommons to allow customers to find the hotspot, but it includes instructions on how to contact staff to place the hold. There are two records in Workflows that indicate Barkman hotspots and Rawlings hotspots. There is also a record for Outreach that may not be checked out to customers at all. I have a attached a screenshot of what this looks like.
If the hotspot is not returned on time, customers will begin accumulating a $5 dollar late fee each day. Once the fee reaches $50, the item is considered lost. We will contact the customer first and eventually Sprint, where the hotspot will be shut off and the customer will not be able to use the wifi any longer.
It is very easy for customers use the hotspot. All they need to do is turn on the device. They then go to their device such as a phone, laptop, tablet, ect.. and go into their wifi settings. PCCLD_Hotspot should pop up. They need to connect to that and it will ask for a password. The password is pueblolibrary. Community Relations is creating cards that we will give out at the time of checkout with the device. I think this is going to be a really popular and necessary service for our community! Many people have devices but can't necessarily afford internet in their homes. Please let me know if you have any questions.
