Winter Driving Tips and Reminders

Even though we're in Southern Colorado, we do get wintry weather! It's important to stay safe and be prepared when driving.  Here are a few at-a-glance tips from the Health and Safety Committee. We've attached some more tips from our insurance provider, HUB. Stay Safe!

Preparation: From keeping headlights and directional signals clean to checking that windshield washer fluid is full, make sure your drivers are aware of appropriate pre-trip checks and protocols.

Maintenance: Whether it's keeping tires properly inflated, flushing the radiator, or switching out tires for appropriate winter types (rain/snow), as well as traction support where necessary (studs/chains etc.), your maintenance schedule should take into account winter-specific risks.

Supplies: Confirming that each vehicle has adequate emergency equipment like blankets, ice scrapers and even sunglasses is an important part of being prepared.

Operation: It's important to remind drivers that extra caution is necessary during winter weather, and to encourage them to increase their stopping distances and scan well ahead. If in doubt, it's always best to change plans and cancel a trip unless it's absolutely unavoidable.
