Executive Director Announcement

Author: Michelle Vigil / Date:
Dear PCCLD colleagues,

Today, I am announcing to you that I will be retiring from the Pueblo City-County Library District. I intend to leave my job as PCCLD Executive Director on September 1, 2022.

It has been an honor to serve as Executive Director here since February 2004 and now comes a good time for me to step away. PCCLD is in solid financial shape, its facilities are in fine condition, the institution’s services are nationally acclaimed, and there are good plans in place to help ensure the library district’s future success. Importantly, there is a great team of dedicated employees here who will continue the vital work of public libraries in this community.

I first informed the PCCLD Board of Trustees some time ago about my intention to retire in 2022 and I share this announcement with you now with a mixture of emotions.
I am proud of PCCLD and care deeply about the public library’s mission. I consider it my privilege to have worked over the years with many dedicated people in support of public libraries. Librarianship has provided me with so much, and I have tried to reciprocate in-kind by giving back to the profession.

Board of Trustees’ President Fredrick Quintana allows me to share these comments with you: “The Board is extraordinarily grateful to Jon for his strong and dedicated leadership. Our district has continually met and exceeded its mission and vision and has made a profoundly positive impact on our local community in large part because of Jon’s intellectual insight and effective management.” My retirement from PCCLD represents an exciting opportunity for the next Executive Director to build upon PCCLD’s tradition of service and achievement. I look forward to finishing key work in the coming months and assisting with a smooth transition.

The Board of Trustees is developing its candidate recruitment plans now, and I expect the Trustees will conduct a robust selection process including seeking staff and stakeholder participation and input. I am confident the Trustees will strive to find a highly-qualified professional who is the best fit for the job. More information about their job recruiting timeline should be announced soon.

Sincerely, Jon Jon Walker Executive Director
