On Monday, August 21, Colorado will have 80-90% totality at the peak time of 11:47 am (eclipse begins at 10:20 am and ends at 1:15 pm.)
THINGS TO REMEMBER
1. Employees should NOT view the eclipse unless using specialized glasses or a welder’s hood/goggles with shade 14 or higher. Specialized glasses MUST have the wording “ISO 12312-2 Compliant” and “CE Certified” to ensure permanent eye damage will not occur.
2. Potential traffic disruptions may exists during the peak of the eclipse. Certain roads will have heavy traffic and some states have already sent out bulletins on restricted use of roadways.
3. Avoid being distracted while driving and identify others that may be driving in an unsafe manner due to distractions.
4. Wildlife may behave erratically during this period so drivers should know how to deal with animals coming near or onto roadways.
BEST PRACTICES INCLUDE
1. Employees who are driving should pullover to a safe location for the peak 10 – 20 minutes of the eclipse.
2. Drivers should anticipate significant delays and/or traffic incidents due to the eclipse.
3. Limit/Prevent any type of work from elevated surfaces (roofs, scaffolding, etc) and limit/prevent any type of material transfer (use of forklifts, cranes, etc) during the darkest 10 - 20 minutes of the eclipse.
