Quick View DVDs and Changes to Loan Rules

Author: jill.deulen / Date:

I wanted to make you aware of some exciting collection changes that will occur on October 1st.  First of all we will be offering a new collection called Quick View dvds.  These will be our high demand titles that we currently order. Instead of using all of these dvds to fill holds, each location will have copies designated to put on  new shelf displays to allow customers to check them out on a first come, first serve basis.  These dvds will be a 3 day checkout and NOT holdable, and not renewable.  We will continue to have copies fill holds, but not as many.  The idea behind this is addressing a customer service gap of not showcasing our new material when it comes in because they are always sitting on the holds shelf.  With a 3 day checkout, we will see a faster turnover with these items as well.  You will see these titles in Sirsi under the same record as the regular dvd, but these will be under the HIGH DEMAND item type.  This item type will be shadowed in Bibliocommons so customers will only see the holdable DVD item type.  These titles will rotate out on a 3 month basis.  Each Quick View dvd will have a label on the front left corner identifying it as a Quick View dvd with the 3 day checkout information.

Also beginning October 1st we will have some changes to our loan rules that will allow customers to check out even more items!  We will move from 25 to a 50 item hold limit.  We will change from 50 book checkout limit to 100.  We will change from 15 DVD checkout limit to 25. This will be split with 20 regular dvd checkouts and the 5 Quick View checkouts.  Finally, we are going from 100 total checkouts to Unlimited!

In the coming weeks Community Relations will be promoting these changes.  They will create a bookmark with the Quick View information on one side and the loan rules on the back side to put with your new Quick View displays. They will also create something similar to a shelf guide for your regular dvd collection that will direct customers to your Quick View collection. You can expect me to send those materials to each location on the last week of September.  You will receive your new Quickview DVDs on September 30th so that Rawlings can start putting them out Sunday, Oct 1st and the other locations on the 2nd.

It's a lot of exciting changes for our customers and please let me know if you have any questions!
