Pueblo library district extends closure to April 20

Author: Ann.Boyden / Date:

After careful consideration and monitoring of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Pueblo City-County Library District has extended its closure of library locations to the public through April 19, re-opening April 20.

This decision is difficult but necessary. We fully understand that the library and its many services are an invaluable resource but recognize our need to safeguard the health of patrons, employees and the community by working to contain the virus’ spread through recommended social distancing.

All materials checked out and holds currently in-place will be maintained until April 30. Patrons are asked not to return books and other library materials via library drop boxes even if the items are due for return. No fines will be assessed during this time.

During this closure, library patrons are encouraged to use PCCLD’s extensive menu of digital resources. Online resources are a great way to encourage social distancing while staying connected through the library.

PCCLD has invested roughly $30,000 in the last two weeks to increase online access during this challenging time when physical library buildings and materials are not available to the public. The push to provide additional e-resources has resulted in an additional 8,000 available titles.

Online resources allow access to e-books, digital magazines, downloadable audiobooks, streaming movies, music, television shows and online research and learning tools.

Individuals who don’t yet have a library card can get an immediate electronic card at www.pueblolibrary.org via the link “Get a library card.” This immediate card will allow patrons to access the full array of online library services.

We are at an unprecedented moment in our city, state and country. At this time of uncertainty, PCCLD is continuing to follow mandates from Gov. Jared Polis, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment to guide the protection of our patrons, staff and overall community.

Follow PCCLD on social media and check the library’s website (www.pueblolibrary.org) for the latest updates.
