Proclamation for Week of Making in Pueblo - Oct. 23-29.

Author: derrick.mason / Date:
Hello everyone. I'll be attending the Wednesday 10/18 Board of County Commissioners Meeting with the rest of the Pueblo Maker Faire Committee. We will be giving an official Proclamation for the Week of Making.  Below is the Text.

From the beginning, makers, artists, and inventors have driven Pueblo’s economy and transformed how we live by taking risks, collaborating, and culminating their talents and imaginations to make our town more dynamic, diverse and interconnected. Making is said to be at the intersection of art and science and the crossroads of technology and design. Makers share knowledge, they learn by doing, they tinker and play.

Pueblo has a long history of making, from our barn forged chili roasters, to our once robust steel industry, Pueblo is a leader in Making. Pueblo seeks to rebuild a community of active and engaged learners who are intrinsically motivated to make, create, build and innovate our future economy. This we hope will equip our youth for the jobs of the future by preparing them with the critical thinking skills needed to solve tomorrows problems.

Pueblo’s youth need advanced skills in computer science and hardware development to power our innovation economy. They need to master the design process and develop their making skills to bring their ideas and prototypes to market. Therefore, it is critical that we support hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning experiences -- in both formal and informal environments -- that students encounter through making. Pueblo is building capacity in the new economy by embracing the Maker Movement and celebrating active and engaged learning.

Across Pueblo County, citizens are attending all types of maker events and workshops -- from maker meet-ups to the first annual Pueblo Mini Maker Faire, to share their incredible inventions and ideas. As we celebrate the power of Pueblo’s ingenuity, we invite everyone to build on this progress by encouraging each other to share what they create and work together to ensure that spaces for making are available anywhere Puebloans live, work, play, and learn.

This week, let us turn today's designs and prototypes into tomorrow's "Made in Pueblo" and “Made in America” labels. The Pueblo Mini Maker Faire seeks to celebrate Pueblo’s ingenuity and genus while inspiring local economic development and STEM education. Pueblo embraces the DIY, problem-solving spirit of the Maker Movement by supporting the first Annual Pueblo Mini Maker Faire October 27 & 28 at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. We call upon all of Pueblo County to observe the week of October 23-29 with programs, ceremonies, celebrations, and activities that encourage a new generation of makers.
