I hope you share the sense of pride with me for all that we have accomplished at PCCLD during the last several months. The COVID-19 public health crisis set us on our heels and our response has been cautious yet proactive. We have been leaders in our community in making informed decisions aligned with the best, current guidance from public health authorities. As a result, we have reached Phase 4.1 of reopening plans in striving to provide the best possible public library service to the members of our community.
Each step along the way, our reopening phases have gone well, so far, and I am happy with the broadly positive response. Library employees and library users alike generally have risen to the challenge during these extraordinarily difficult times.
The COVID-19 public health crisis has presented high hurdles for all of us, and PCCLD has done great in responding. It is important for us to continue to be vigilant. Spread of the virus remains moderate overall in our community and we have been able to open up more services to the public as a result. But make no mistake, the virus is still among us and threat of its spread remains a serious matter. The pandemic continues to be a hazard to our good health.
Every library employee has a duty to do these things:
1. Complete the daily COVID-19 health check and stay home if you are sick
2. Wear a facemask inside libraries anytime you are in a shared space
3. Wash your hands frequently
4. Regularly sanitize high-touch furnishings and equipment
5. Keep six feet of social distance from others.
We all share the responsibility to attend to these things. We, also, are accountable for helping enforce these among library users. Each of us must ensure library users are wearing masks properly, that no food or drink is on premises by users inside the library, social distancing is being maintained, and library users are abiding by the one-hour in-building time limit. Our doing this better guarantees everyone's good health. We all have a role in this and must help with compliance and enforcement among library users.
We are not out of the woods on the virus pandemic and by following these guidelines, we better ensure the best and healthiest path forward for everyone.
