PCCLD Status Update August 24

Author: jon.walker / Date:
The next phase in PCCLD’s reopening progress commences Tuesday, September 8. Most libraries will return to normal in-building hours of service on this date. A few other changes also will take place at this time, perhaps, most notably, this includes extending in-building browsing and computer sessions to one hour per person. This next stage of reopening libraries will continue to include mandates for face coverings over the nose and mouth when inside libraries interacting with other employees or with the public, social distancing at a minimum of six feet among everyone in libraries, and other sanitation protocols like quarantining returned materials and cleaning high-touch surfaces. Public meeting rooms will remain closed for the most part as will in-person programming. Virtual programming and curbside services will continue although these will necessarily be reduced as library employees spend more time at public service desks. Your supervisor has additional information on this reopening phase as it applies to your department or branch, and Kayci Barnett will be announcing a PCCLD University online class on this soon. These changes have been in the works for a while and they are being made in consultation with the library Trustees, PCCLD supervisors, and public health authorities. We are able to make these changes as the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Colorado and Pueblo County remains moderate overall, although it continues to demand everyone’s ongoing attention. Your good work is very much appreciated. There have been no COVID-19 outbreaks or documented onsite exposures on PCCLD premises so far. It is our goal to maintain this track record while continuing to endeavor to fulfill our library service mission. We are in close contact with the local health department and PCCLD employees will be informed immediately and appropriately if there is an onsite COVID-19 exposure or outbreak at PCCLD. Each of us can support one another by following these steps: *Do not come to work if you have any of these symptoms: fever, consistent cough, shortness of breath, or a known exposure to anyone in the last fourteen days who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. *Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not readily available. *Avoid close contact with other people by keeping six feet (about two arms’ length) of distance between yourself and others. *Cover your mouth and nose with a face mask when around others. *Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. This is an important time for our community and the library. We can continue to operate safely and well by adhering to these guidelines. Jon
