It is official! The name of the new library under construction on the City of Pueblo's east side is the Patrick A. Lucero Library. The PCCLD Board of Trustees took action last evening at their regular monthly meeting to name the new library for Mr. Lucero. This follows an earlier action by the Pueblo City Council to recommend this naming to PCCLD.
Patrick A. Lucero was selected for this honor following an open nomination process. Nearly forty nominations were reviewed by a select committee of local residents. This committee suggested the name of the library be in honor of Mr. Lucero, after reviewing and considering all nominations.
Patrick A. Lucero (August 13, 1948-March 14, 1968) was raised on Pueblo's east side and graduated from East High School in 1966. He later served in the United States military, and was killed in action in Vietnam while serving as point on patrol in 1968. Patrick was selected for this honor because he represents the qualities of service, nation, and community, and for the impact he has had on the lives of many. On September 11, 2010, a newly built library in Ba Long, Vietnam, was dedicated in his name, accomplished thanks to many individuals and groups including Peace Trees Vietnam. Mr. Lucero's life is symbolic of values emblematic of Pueblo, including our community's connection to veterans, an emphasis on education, diversity, compassion and forgiveness, and a hero who gave his life for his country.
