Beginning tomorrow, special tablets for kids called Launchpads are will be available for checkout. Eight differently themed Launchpads are available, and each has 10 pre-loaded learning apps designed for kids ages 3 to 7. The tablets are built for kids with safety in mind with a durable case, easy to use touch screen, and no internet capabilities. Launchpads checkout for 7 days, and are available at every library location. Here are some key points to remember regarding circulation:
Launchpads check out just like other media items: 7 day loan period, 25 hold limit, renewable 6 times, 10 cents/day Max $3 overdue fee per item, 15 item limit
Only the case is tagged, so we need to check for the tablet, charger, and charging cord when it is returned.
Each tablet needs to be reset when returned, but this is really easy. Turn on, touch the small home icon on the bottom of the screen, then select reset. If you get a question asking about starting over, select Yes.
If an item is returned without a piece, please follow the traditional blue slip procedure. Please call the patron, though, since high replacement fees will be attached to lost items. If the item is still on your trouble shelf after a month please send it to Elizabeth in TS with a note.
Replacement fees: AC Adapter $10, USB Cord $7, Bumper $9, Case $8. If the tablet itself or the entire item is lost, a fee of $100 to $120 will be charged.A separate in-house Launchpad is in Youth Services. Stop by YS to try out this fun, new item!
