Kristin Hannah donates $20,000 to PCCLD

Author: Ann.Boyden / Date:
Bestselling author Kristin Hannah donated $20,000 to the Pueblo City-County Library District (PCCLD) to go toward the purchase of her books. In a statement from her agent, the donation is to ensure that members of the public have a greater opportunity to get a free copy of her books. More than 1,000 books have been purchased, thanks to her donation.

Nick Potter, director of Community Relations for the library district said, “Kristin Hannah’s generosity is incredibly generous. When we were contacted by her agent we were initially in disbelief, but quickly began plans to purchase and distribute books to the community.”

Hannah is the award-winning and bestselling author of more than 20 novels, including The Four Winds, the adult fiction selection of the library district’s annual literacy program All Pueblo Reads. Her other titles include the international bestseller, The Nightingale as well as Winter Garden, Night Road, The Great Alone and Firefly Lane. More than 600 of her books had already been purchased by the district for All Pueblo Reads prior to Hannah’s $20,000 donation.

Two of her books have been adapted for the screen. Firefly Lane is now in its second season on Netflix and is set to start on December 2. Her bestseller The Nightingale, starring Dakota Fanning and her sister Elle Fanning, is scheduled to be released in theaters in December.

To receive a free copy of one of her books, the public can attend a special watch party of Hannah’s online public author talk at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Robert Hoag Rawlings Public Library, 100 E. Abriendo Ave. and at the Pueblo West Library, 298 S. Joe Martinez Blvd. Both events are free and open to the public. Books are available on a first-come, first-served basis and attendees are asked to register beforehand at www.pueblolibrary.org/HannahBooks. Refreshments will be provided. The online author talk will stream on the Pueblo library’s main Facebook and YouTube pages.

In addition to the free public author talk, Hannah is the featured guest for the annual Booklovers Ball, a fundraiser for the Pueblo Library Foundation. Due to ongoing construction at Rawling Library, the Booklovers Ball will be streamed online at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. In addition to purchasing a virtual ticket, viewers can also purchase a wellness box that includes a mug and tea set, dessert, a gratitude journal, mindfulness activities and more. Viewers can also submit questions during the live question and answer session. Tickets can be purchased at www.pueblolibrary.org/allpuebloreads.

Now in its 18th year, the literacy project hosts six weeks of more than 70 free activities, both in person and virtual, at all eight library branches as well as at CSU Pueblo, Pueblo Community College and the Pueblo YMCA. The community-wide literary project typically reaches more than 30,000 individuals in person and online during October and November.

In addition to Hannah, National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) sponsored poet Ross Gay and children’s author Alicia Ortego round out the offerings for young adults and children.

PCCLD is dedicated to serving as a foundation for the Pueblo community by offering welcoming, well equipped and maintained facilities, outstanding collections, and well-trained employees who provide expert service encouraging the joy of reading, supporting lifelong learning and presenting access to information from around the world.
