Soon after the Idea Factory first opened early last year, an incentive program was introduced to encourage creative thinking about how we can most effectively engage customers with these new resources. Over the nine months of this challenge, nearly 4,500 participants engaged in learning and content creation within the Idea Factory or with these new technologies at other locations.
I'd like to congratulate three staff in particular for their efforts!
Kathy Kearney - first place
Kathy made numerous visits to middle and high schools, demonstrating technology and promoting the Idea Factory. While she works full time in RRA now, most of her efforts toward this challenge came during her work at Pueblo West. Congratulations to Kathy for earning first place from a location quite separate from the Idea Factory room.
Susan Wolf - second place
In addition to developing her own programs, Susan also worked to partner with groups to hold their 'maker' activities such as folding origami, making music and film in the Idea Factory. She also brought technology to the Chili Fest.
David Hartkop - third place
Working at times with a Community Relations hat and others directly out of RRA, David often engaged crowds of people with the Makerbot 3D printer, taking it off site for demonstrations on multiple occasions. I saw David going above and beyond to support customers create content, at one point building an ad hoc sound both to help a fellow record parts of a musical he had written.
Announcement at the beginning of the challenge:
PCCLD Idea Factory Learning Lab - Earn to Learn!
In order to grow development in programming with an emphasis on content creation and hands-on learning with new technologies, an opportunity has been created that allows you to earn your own training dollars to be spent in 2015.
Earn credits for each attendee at programs you host within the Idea Factory and at off-site programs which utilize the Idea Factory’s collection of new technologies and market Idea Factory resources. Build the most credits and earn: 1st place prize of $2,500 in training funds to attend a professional development opportunity of your choice; 2nd place prize of $700 in training funds; 3rd place prize of $300 in training funds (all training requires prior approval).
Eligible staff will most likely be part of the Community Relations Office, RRA, and YS. However, participation from any department is possible with manager approval. Managers will submit stats to Marilyn Baillargeon monthly for tracking purposes. Contest ends at midnight, 12/31/2014.
