Please share the info with family and friends! AUTHORS AND COMIC BOOK ARTISTS A.L. Kessler - will have booth selling her books A.L. Kessler is a paranormal romance and steampunk author residing in Colorado Springs. Since she was a teenager she's loved weaving stories and spinning tales. When she's not at the beck-and-call of the Lord and Lady of the House, two black cats by the names of Jynx and Sophie, training a playful puppy named Zelda, playing with her daughter, or killing creepers and mining all the things with her husband, she's either reading, participating in NaNoWriMo, or writing in her Blog Writing Rambles. Matt Campbell Art (Matt Campbell) - will have booth selling his books, art and original sketches; will lead workshop: “Art for Comics” His information: Matt Campbell is a Colorado based illustrator and comic book artist who has worked with CCP Comics, World Leaderz, Nayantara Studios, Versicolor as well as many independent creators to provide his artistic touch to book covers, table top games and many comics including as Electron Boy, Station 39 and more! –Matt is currently promoting MYTHICA–his creator owned, epic tale of demon hunting in WW1. Although fairly new to the comic industry, Matt’s attention to detail and his love for storytelling have already created fans all over the country and beyond. In this introductory demonstration, artist Matt Campbell will give a taste of some of the classes he offers on telling stories with pictures. Drew Maxwell - will lead a virtual discussion via Skype Drew works as an award-winning freelance illustrator, comic book creator, concept artist, and a successful feature film screenwriter, producer and director. Drew’s work has world-wide distribution through Warner Brothers and Shoreline Entertainment. He has become known for his talent, versatility, imagination and professionalism, gaining recognition through his work with an increasing range of clients and projects. When Drew is not directing feature films, creating comic books or developing programs for clients such as Warner Brothers Animation, Cartoon Network or Shoreline Entertainment, Drew is busy defending justice from “bad guys” with his two superhero children and awesome ninja wife. Meents Illustrated (Jason Meents) - will have a booth selling his comic books and art Jason Meents is a comic book style artist that has self published 2 kids books and had work published in Spawn and Red Sonja comic books. Jason works in a style that is fun for all ages that he takes a variety of pop culture characters are reimagined as what he calls "tykes" or little kid versions of the characters. Jason is a 2012 graduate of CSU-Pueblo. Christopher M. Salas - will have booth selling his books and art Born and raised in Pueblo, CO., Christopher M. Salas developed a penchant for science fiction and the paranormal from his grandmother and uncle. As a child spending time with his grandmother, Juanita, included watching Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers. His uncle Augustine would tell tales at the dinner table, recounting scenes from movies he had watched, such as Dawn of the Dead or The Exorcist. This played a key role in Christopher’s predilection for horror and science fiction. Currently residing in Colorado Springs, CO., Christopher dabbles his storytelling in various genres of fiction–Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy and Steampunk. While working on the Abigail: Curses and Demons series, House on Teardrop Lane trilogy and other literary works, Christopher also is a script writer for Themis Comics. Sheath Comics (Benjamin Worrell) - will have booth selling his comic books and art Benjamin Worrell is a middle school art teacher by day and a comic book author and artist by other parts of the day. Sheath, Benjamin's creator-owned ongoing comic book, follows the adventures of high school senior Ethan Cooper as he deals with life, love, and superpowers. Find out more at sheathcomics.com! Themis Comics (Jason Montoya) - will have booth selling his comic books and art; will lead workshop: “Comic Book Collaboration” His information: Jason is a Colorado Native, born and raised in Colorado Springs. He is an artist who works with a variety of mediums including watercolor, gouache, pencil, color pencil, ink, oil, acrylic, airbrush, and digital. He is the founder of Themis Comix and is currently working on his creator owned comic series Baron Von Saturday’s Tales From Beyond, as well as working with author Christopher M. Salas to bring the pages of his novel’s to life as graphic novels, the Abigail: Curses and Demons series. He is also co-writing and illustrating the upcoming titles: Themis Origins, Dethmasque and Colorado Chillers! Jason does it all: penciler, inker, letter, co-plotter, editor, designer and writer. He has been published in various publications ranging from superhero comics to Horror and Sci Fi. Workshop information: Exploring the dynamic between the author and the artist to bring a story to life through words and pictures. ARTISTS FoxyFunk Designs (Meredith Funk) - will have booth selling crafts/home decor and jewelry FoxyFunk Designs creates jewelry, accessories and home adornments influenced by retro gaming, modern fashions and visions of the future. Govannon Iron Works (Alexander Chavez) - His information: Works at Pewag USA and at Govannon Iron Works as a professional blacksmith. Past: USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and Colorado State University-Pueblo. Studied at Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz-Germany. Demonstration information: A presentation of the ancient art of blacksmithing. Small works will be rendered in metal with the heat of a small metal forge. Jambone Creative (Carisa LVG) - will have a booth selling her art Carisa prounounced [Kah- ree- sah] is a graphic designer and artist. Jambone Creative has been called "Advertising Agency of the Stars" by EMEK. She aspires to do the best work in creative thinking by incubating great ideas and using the latest software to produce quality digital illustration design work across interactive and print platforms. Rawlings Library – will offer workshop: “Rap Sprays and Letter Science” The workshop will teach the basics of spray paint art including lettering techniques for anyone interested in participating in our Spray Paint Art Jam event. Rachel Salazar (Library employee) - will lead workshop: “Adobe Lightroom Basics” Rachel Salazar graduated from CSU-Pueblo with a bachelors of arts majoring in English creative writing and minoring in Art (photography). Rachel does photography aside from working at the library. Kimberly Sewell - will perform solo jazz vocals Kimberly Sewell has been performing professionally since 2007. During her high school years (2004-08) Kimberly participated in a wide variety of musical ensembles and competitions that propelled her into the music industry. Upon graduation from high school, Kimberly accepted a scholarship to study Jazz Vocals at the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music. Her studies there quickly led to several successful collaborations that ranged from single events to lasting musical projects. Bio Photo Kimberly has headlined at Dazzle Lounge in Denver, CO, Motif in Old Colorado City, CO and La Renaissance in Pueblo, CO as well as being a featured guest artist at venues including the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center. Kimberly has worked on several studio projects and performs regularly with groups in the Pueblo and Colorado Springs area. Over the last two years, Kimberly has focused her energies on completing her bachelor degree in Mass Communications at CSU Pueblo where she will graduate this May, after which time, Kimberly will be putting renewed energies into her musical pursuits. Tim Sparks - will demonstrate motion control time-lapse digital cinematography His information:Tim Sparks is a professional filmmaker with over five years of experience in independent production work. He currently works as the lead video editor at the Professional Bull Riders here in Pueblo. Presentation information: This will be a presentation of motion control time-lapse digital cinematography. I will be demonstrating a slow moving camera shot that takes place over an hour or more, recorded one frame at a time with a DSLR camera mounted on a motorized camera slider. I will then show the process of combining all the frames to create an ultra-smooth dramatic time lapse shot with a dynamic motion effect. COSPLAY Yokaze Cosplay (Stephanie Hertel) - will have a booth selling art; will lead workshop: “Armor Crafting with Thermal Plastics”; will serve as a judge for the Cosplay Competition Her information: Yokaze is a local cosplayer that's been sewing, gluing, and burning her fingers (yay, thermoplastics!) for over a decade with more than 6 awards. She's most well known for costumes that employ creative engineering to allow for gravity defying costumes, 15 foot wingspans, articulated armor, and swords that look like laced obsidian. She is always trying to push the limits of what is possible with cosplay. Workshop information: This panel covers the basics of making armor and props using a variety of Thermal Plastics, including Wonderflex, Worbla, and Friendly Plastic. We will discuss how to heat and form them into amazing armor pieces and props! Take a close look at some of the armor we've made with these plastics! The panel will also touch on how to finish, paint, and attach your armor, as well as where to obtain these wonderful materials. 501st Legion - will attend in costume The Legion is an all-volunteer organization formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion seeks to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work. GAMING Chaos, Games and More (John Tiffany) - will have booth teaching games available at their store We will teach various card, board and miniature games. Examples: Munchkin, Zombies, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Poke'mon etc. TECHNOLOGY Kayci Barnett (Library employee) - will have booth with hands-on demonstration of squishy circuits Her information: I am an a-typical librarian that can teach 21st Century learning skills to all ages. I have unique experiences in video production, and six years of management experience. Demonstration information: Build an electric circuit using play dough and LED lights. Learn how electrons flow in a circuit. Activity is for all ages. Justin Bregar Creative (Justin Bregar) - will demonstrate a variety of drone technology His information: Currently a web developer at Leepfrog Technologies, and owner of Justin Bregar Creative, LLC. He lives in Denver and specializes in creative work involving web, digital cinematography, and camera drones. Previous positions included work at the web development company Crowd Favorite, and faculty in the communications department at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Demonstration Information: A demonstration of camera drone technology, showcasing both an off-the-shelf mini drone and a professional level large multi-rotor electric aircraft for use with videography. David Hartkop (Library employee) - will give tours of Idea Factory; will demonstrate Mini Metal Maker His information:The Mini Metal Maker is a creation of David and Lindsay Hartkop. Work began on their invention in the summer of 2013 and they conducted a successful Indiegogo campaign in 2013. The campaign provided funds used to complete the R&D required to develop their wooden prototype into a fully featured production model. The Hartkops currently have four patents pending on their unique all-electronic metal clay 3D printer, including filings for their high pressure digital extruder, auto-leveling sensor plate, magnetic polymer build surface, and wetting nozzle bath. Mini Metal Maker is a trademark held by David and Lindsay Hartkop. Demonstration information: The Mini Metal Maker is a small 3D printer that lets hobbyists, engineers & jewelry crafts persons print with metal instead of plastic. It prints with metal clay, which can then be fired in a kiln to create a solid metal object. OTHER Black Falcon School of Arms (Ben Holman) - will demonstrate Middle English combat, focusing on the longsword (in Courtyard) The Black Falcon School of Arms' purpose is to reconstruct the art of late medieval and early Renaissance English combat, with an emphasis upon the use of the longsword. To accomplish this goal, the group will make use of primary sources from England and other regions, when applicable. Research and experimentation upon this topic shall take place with a variety of different tools and using several different sources so as to gain a more complete understanding of the social climate, practical considerations and historical context associated with the art of late medieval English longsword combat. Re-construction of said combat shall be pursued in a safe and organized manner that emphasizes development of martial skill and safe drilling and sparring practices. Justin Morenz - performance art: “Goblin on the Loose” His Information: Justin is a graphic artist, illustrator and musician. He currently teaches graphic arts and technology at the Swallows Charter Academy in Pueblo West. Performance information: A whimsical goblin to delight and add fright to the creative goings-on at IDEA Con. Rawlings Library InfoZone Theater – will show “Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” at 2:00pm Rawlings Library Youth Services – will provide materials to make fandom-based paper crafts.
