COVID-19 Update

Author: Sherri.Baca / Date:
As we continue to respond to the continuing health pandemic, it is clear that we are doing a great job keeping our libraries safe and healthy. The Omicron variant is currently moving through Colorado at a quickening pace -- data indicates that: * Severe disease and hospitalization in Colorado due to COVID-19 is expected to peak in the next few days -- Pueblo County is likely following a few days or weeks behind the statewide trend. * Omicron is highly contagious, although it is generally milder in its effects than the Delta variant and is causing less hospitalization and death. * Vaccination is proving to be an effective prevention strategy overall for COVID-19, and we strongly encourage all library employees to be vaccinated and receive the appropriate booster. Our COVID-19 protocols remain in place -- facial masks, social distancing, monitoring staff illness, etc. Because of Omicron, the library district is moving into a short period of enhancements to our protocols in order to ensure that our libraries have staff coverage and can remain open and operating. Between now and February 1, 2022 the following items will be in place: * We are postponing library-sponsored in-person programs and will pivot to virtual programming as possible. * We encourage staff to wear library-provided KN95 masks for extra protection. Please see your manager for one KN95 mask per week provided to library employees. * Human Resources will work with employees as soon as illness occurs to provide support for testing, remaining out of work, and returning to work. * We are adjusting staff coverage on Sundays to match current needs. * We will support staffing needs as soon as possible as departments or branches experience staff absences due to illness. We encourage all library employees to wash hands frequently, wear the KN95 masks if able, and to vaccinate against COVID-19. Thank you for your continued hard work in supporting library patrons' needs and for doing all you can to remain healthy.
