I want to correct misinformation that appeared in yesterday's Pueblo Chieftain in the "Letters to the Editor" on the newspaper's Sunday edition Opinion page.
The letter from Susan McCarthy reads in part: "I was reading The Pueblo Chieftain article dated Nov. 8 about the Pueblo City-County Library District naming the new library on the St. Charles Mesa ("Library to carry Giodone name"). I'm wondering why the article neglected to mention the Carlo family, who donated 12.86 acres of land to the library district on June 17, 2013 . . . "
I want ensure staff know that the Carlo family did not donate land to the library district. The library bought the land on the Mesa from the Carlo family at full market value. I am disappointed in Susan McCarthy's letter. I have never met her to my recollection, but I think she sells real estate. So, she could easily have checked to get the facts on this. Or asked me.
The Carlo family did provide a generous financial contribution for the new library project. In turn, the library district named the meeting room at the new Giodone Library for the Carlo family and provided a beautiful commemorative plaque in that room detailing the Carlo family history along with family photos.
Similarly, the library district and the Giodone family also conducted a transaction, which significantly benefited the library capital fund with financial resources. As part of that transaction, the district agreed to name the library for Tom and Anna Marie Giodone.
