Effective tonight at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, the Pueblo City-County Library District will temporarily close all library locations to the public and these closures will remain in effect until Monday, March 30.
The Library District expects to reopen Rawlings, Barkman, Lucero, Giodone, Greenhorn Valley, Library @ the Y, Lamb, and Pueblo West locations for normal business hours on Monday, March 30. Our events, programs, and classes will remain cancelled and meeting rooms closed until April 15.
Library employees scheduled to work this upcoming Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, should not report to work on Saturday or Sunday, and will be paid under the “Emergency Closure” policy. Security staff will attend to the external book drops at Barkman, Lamb, and Rawlings over the weekend.
All library facilities will remain closed until March 30, but library employees, unless specifically notified otherwise, should report to work as scheduled on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17, to work on “back office” activities. I will be back in touch early next week with further announcements for our workforce moving forward beyond Tuesday.
The COVID-19 public health crisis is having an unprecedented impact on us, our community, our region, our country, and throughout the world. This decision to temporarily close our libraries has been made in order to support the greater good. It is critical to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus as much as possible by maximizing social distancing now.
Public announcements about the closing of our libraries are being posted at this time to social media, the Library District’s website, and the press.
